Title Design: Teen Spirit

1.How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film? Which ones?

There are 18 titles. They are the actors, writer, director, producer, executive producers, co-producer, director of photography, production designer, costume designer, editor, composer/person who did music, music co-producer, music supervisor, choreographers, visual effects, visual effects supervisor, make-up and hair designer and the caster.

2. What connotations do the images carry? (How do you they make you feel?)

The beginning images seem mysterious as someone's figure is being shown in shadows. This made me curious as I did not know what was going to happen next. However, as the intro keeps going it becomes a little overwhelming. As a lot of people are talking over each other in different languages and the titles go by faster. Not only this, but the intro shows the main character in a public setting with a bunch of people trying to talk to her and take photos of her. By the end of the intro, I felt sympathy for the main character and curiosity about what was going to happen in the movie.

3. How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset? (Can you tell what genre the film is)

The genre is shown using symbolic and technical codes by using dramatic music and some choppy camera movements. This also helps to create suspense and a little bit of a panic when the main character is being bombarded by the press. You can also gather that this movie is going to be about music, and you can guess that it will also be a drama. This is mainly due to the fact that the intro is about the main character winning a prestigious music show and shows her trying to adjust to her. new lifestyle towards the end.

4. What conventions are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?

A convention used is contrasting lights. In the beginning of the intro the main character is in shadow and partial shadow. This helps to capture the audience's attention from the start. Once the audience's attention is captured it's the film's responsibility to maintain it. It does this by suddenly having a lot of chaos on the screen by using people speaking over each other in different languages and bathing them in bright light. So that the audience can see each character and the main character clearly.  Not only does this keep the audience's attention it helps the audience understand what is happening more.
